The Syrian women replacing men as leaders

Girls have begun to be elected as camp leaders amongst Syrian refugee communities in Lebanon, breaking conventional social norms.

Girls would usually be anticipated to remain at house, in conservative Syrian communities, leaving management to males.

However within the camps in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, house to 800,000 displaced Syrians, the turmoil of conflict has allowed conventions to be challenged.

Hind Al-Hamad and Ashwaq Mohammed are two of the ladies breaking the mould and serving as position fashions for the ladies of their camps.
